2019-2020 PCS Bursary Award
We are thrilled to be able to announce that we have two successful students, Anna Richardson and Stephen Hickson whose dissertation topics promise to add depth to the research of Penguin history.
Anna Richardson
Anna's dissertation title is John Lehmann and 'the voice of a literature at war'.
"Growing up in Bristol in a family of librarians, it came as no surprise to anyone that, after a short detour studying German and History at The University of Sheffield, I chose to pursue my MA in Publishing at UCL. Even on my year abroad I was unable to escape my booklust, finding the Antiquariat in each new town and dragging my friends around the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz on one occasion. Currently, I am most proud of my work as a Marketing Officer for The UCL Publishers” Prize anthology which is launching later this summer."
Stephen Hickson
Stephen's dissertation title is Jan Tschichold's influence on the typography of Penguin Books.
Stephen is a designer from Bracknell, Berkshire. In 2018, he attained a degree in Graphic Communication from the University of Reading and found employment with an information design company in Richmond, London. He has since returned to Reading and is following the Book Design pathway of the MA Communication Design programme.
