The publication of Miscellany 10 coincided with the sixtieth anniversary of Penguin Books and the twenty-first anniversary of the Penguin Collectors Society.
Steve Hare, in his ‘Introduction’ points out that it was natural to ’celebrate something, and what could be better than ... the many achievements of the early Penguin staff, from the 1935-1970 era’.
Thus this Miscellany contains articles and insights from this era, either from those early members of staff or from their family members. In addition to the ‘Introduction’, the contents are:
- ‘Penguin Production, 1939-1942’ by Bob Maynard
- ‘Resigned to Success’ by Ian Ballantine and Philip Patrick
- ‘The South American Experience’ by Tanya Schmoller
- ‘The Lucky Country’ by Bob Maynard
- ‘The Magic of Coal’ by Jane Carrington
- ‘Penguins in the Early Fifties’ by David Herbert
- ‘Getting Things Right’ by Margaret Clark
- ‘Games on Games Covers’ by Abram Games
- ‘Lady Chatterley: The Correct Version’ by John Curtis
- ‘Signor Buonarroti and Other Problems’ by David Duguid
- ‘RGWL’ by Elizabeth Paton
