Benefits
- An Annual Conference held at various venues - Bristol, Salisbury, Sheffield, Bedford have been among the most recent - brings members together for a convivial and bookish weekend.
- For the most part, however, communication takes place through the Society's publications. Membership entitles you to all publications in the calendar year. The Penguin Collector, published in June and December, is a substantial illustrated journal, in mock Penguin format, full of articles and information on Penguin-related topics, contributed by members and guest writers. In addition there is usually at least one further specialist publication.
- The Society publishes specialist books which are usually sent free to Members in their year of publication. In the past these have included Penguin by Illustrators, Drawn Direct to the Plate, A Checklist of the Puffin Picture Books, and Abram Games and Penguin Books.
Subscriptions
Annual subscription costs
The subscription year runs with the calendar year. New members pay the full annual subscription for the year they join and receive all members' publications for that year.
The basic subscription, for a UK resident new member or a UK resident member who has not given a direct debit authority is £30. There is a £5 reduction to £25 for a member who gives a direct debit authority.
Members resident elsewhere in Europe subscribe £35 (including post and packaging).
Members resident elsewhere in the World subscribe £40 (including post and packaging).
Again, for all those resident outside the UK, there is a £5 reduction for a member with a UK bank account who gives a direct debit authority.
Members aged 25 or under at any time in the year who pay by direct debit (and give us their date of birth) subscribe £12.50 (wherever they live, though a direct debit must be to a UK bank account). We reserve the right to seek evidence of date of birth.
Regular payments
Ideally a subscription would be paid by a direct debit on a UK bank - this gives you a £5 discount. You can of course cancel your direct debit by writing to your bank at any time. Any members uncertain whether they have a direct debit can check with the Treasurer.
