The Miscellany series was an attempt to make some of the more important material from the Newsletters available again but in a revised and consolidated form where appropriate.
MISCELLANY 1 contains three articles.
- ‘The Flight of the Penguin’ contains reminiscences of the pioneer days at Penguin from Joan Coles and Peggy Rafferty who worked closely with Allen Lane. (First published in PCS Newsletter 4, 1975 and PCS Newsletter 6, 1976).
- ‘Early Handbooks’ by W A Swale is a short article from PCS Newsletter 5, 1975 which discusses the early Penguin Handbooks that were formerly issued as Penguin Specials during the wartime years.
- ‘That Wartime Blemish: advertising in Penguins’ by Andrew Hajducki was first published in PCS Newsletter 1, 1974. This article has been substantially expanded by Russell Edwards and a number of illustrations have been added.
