Radio 4 and the Penguin Guides
BBC Radio 4 plans to broadcast three short pieces about the 1939 Penguin Guides during ‘The World at One’ programme on 26, 27 and 28 December. Emma Jane Kirby will report from Cornwall, Derbyshire and Kent on how the first Penguin Guides introduced visitors to the three counties. She will talk about how they’ve changed, and listen to local people on some of the traditions and the qualities that have survived. Of course, if big news breaks, these holiday pieces may be squeezed out; but it should be worth keeping an ear to Radio 4 from one o’clock onwards on the three gentle days after Christmas for a little festive Penguin listening.
